Made for Mermaids Sewing Patterns are digital downloads. You will print OR project them at home, OR send them to a copy shop to print. This is not a physical garment or pattern and nothing will be mailed to you. The Sydney pattern is an on-trend knit skort featuring a flattering, high-waist lined waistband. The front skirt is A-line and slightly smaller than the back, while the back skirt is fuller and longer for added coverage. Choose between micro mini and mini lengths for the skirt portion. The built-in shorties have a seamless front for comfort, with a side panel that includes an optional pocket and a gusset for easy movement. You can make the shorties as separates them in 3”, 4”, or 5” inseams. Sydney is perfect for pickleball, tennis, gym days, or cheering at your kids’ sports games—combining comfort, coverage, and a silhouette that’s right on trend. Skill level: Confident beginner – sewing athletic knits can be tricky. Sewing the shorties’ gusset will be the most difficult for a true beginner. Suggested Fabrics: •Fabric content will affect the drape and fit. •Drafted for medium weight knits (200gsm ) with 4-way stretch, great recovery, and a minimum 50% horizontal stretch, and 50% vertical stretch. Look for high spandex content, 5% minimum, but I prefer 12%-25%. Note- the higher spandex content and heavier weight knits (250gsm ) will feel tighter and give more compression. •Athletic knits (peached performance, nylon spandex, poly spandex, ribbed athletic, brushed athletic, etc.) •I like to self line my Sydney waistband, but you could also use another similar weight athletic knit for the lining. You do not want to use a different weight or stretch fabric for the lining, it will not work well. Notions: •Optional- 1/4″ clear elastic to add support to the waistband. •Optional- 1/2″ wonder under or knit hem tape •Basics: thread, pins or clips, scissors, ruler, hem gauge, safety pin or bodkin, and marking tool.
