The central text explains that the plan shows Mons as it was when the King himself took mastery of it after fifteen days of open trenches on April 8, 1691. The map highlights the extensive star-shaped bastions and defensive works typical of the era. A decorative cartouche in the top left provides publication details from Paris. A table in the top right identifies key city gates and fortifications, such as the Porte de Bertamont and the Ouvrage à Corne.
