Title: “Carte de l’Europe corrigée et augmentée dessus toutes les aultres. . .” Description: A rare map of Europe, dated 1627. First state, issued by Melchoir Tavernier. Most probably engraved by Cornelis Danckerts (the elder), a highly skilled engraver., probably sold separately at first, did not appear in any atlas. Prepared by Petrus Bertius, who published a number of folio maps, although never actually an atlas of his own. The maps were either separately issued or included in atlases and books by other publishers. Cartographer: Petrus Bertius (1565 – 1629) Plate size: 38.5 x 51.0 cm Year: 1627 Technique: copper engraving Condition: In good original condition, no restoration or cleaning. 3 cm separation in lower centrefold. Paper with watermark. Wide margins. A few stains to margin corners. This is an original antique map published in 1627 and NOT a modern copy or reprint!
