France, Alsace and Lorraine have already lost. England is neutral, but the flag is broken and there is a large wool bale with guns sticking out. (A reference to the secret arms shipments to France). Italy is playing cards with Rome (patience). Spain is looking for a new king. Greece has become detached from Turkey and Russia is already sharpening its knife to cut off a large piece of European Turkey. This war, which lasted until May 1871, ended in defeat for France and led to the Paris Revolt that spawned the Paris Commune. This war saw the first use of machine guns and balloons for reconnaissance. The humiliation of France made this war, in a way, a prelude to World War I and later World War II.
