Title: “Delineatio Regiae Urbis Rigae et Obsidionis qua a Magno Moschorum Czare Alexi Michalowitz…” Description: A large, beautifully engraved and very detailed plan of city Riga during the Siege of 1656, Latvia. The Siege of Riga by the Russian Army under Czar Alexei Mikhailovich was a major battle of the Russo-Swedish War. It is is filled with battles, armies and a large number of cavalry soldiers in the foreground. Top left is a magnificent title cartouche, next to it the coat of arms of Riga, in the upper right corner a coat of arms with three crowned fish and another cartouche with additional explanations. The engraving comes from Samuel Pufendorf’s book “Histoire du Regne de Charles Gustave Roy de Suede …” drawn by Erik Jonsson von Dahlberg, published by Christoph Riegel in Nuremberg, 1697.
